Jehoshua is on the throne of David in New Jerusalem and He is the King of a New Israel
Psalm 45:6-7 (KJV) 6 Thy throne, O God is forever and ever; the sceptre of thy kingdom is a right sceptre. 7 Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows. This is one of the most explicit statements in the bible declaring the diety of Christ, the human Son of David and the divine Son of God. The author of Hebrews quoted this verse in relation to the ascension of Christ. This passage is a prophecy of the establishment of Christ as King as well as the establishment of His never ending Kingdom. The sceptre is a symbol of Kingly authority. Jesus sceptre is a sceptre of justice. The Son is God yet distinct from God the Father, who is the covenant Jehovah of the Mediator. anointed. The verbal form of Messiah or Christ, meaning God gave Him the graces of the Holy Spirit to fufill His mission (1 Samuel 16:13, Isaiah 11:2, 61:1). God the Father, the Son of God and the Holy Spirit cooperate to save sinners. Psalm 72:1-20 (KJV)1 Give the king thy judgments, O God, and thy righteousness unto the king's son. 2 He shall judge thy people with righteousness, and thy poor with judgment. 3 The mountains shall bring peace to the people, and the little hills, by righteousness. 4 He shall judge the poor of the people, he shall save the children of the needy, and shall break in pieces the oppressor. 5 They shall fear thee as long as the sun and moon endure, throughout all generations. 6 He shall come down like rain upon the mown grass: as showers that water the earth. 7 In his days shall the righteous flourish; and abundance of peace so long as the moon endureth. 8 He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, and from the river unto the ends of the earth. 9 They that dwell in the wilderness shall bow before him; and his enemies shall lick the dust. 10 The kings of Tarshish and of the isles shall bring presents: the kings of Sheba and Seba shall offer gifts. 11 Yea, all kings shall fall down before him: all nations shall serve him. 12 For he shall deliver the needy when he crieth; the poor also, and him that hath no helper. 13 He shall spare the poor and needy, and shall save the souls of the needy. 14 He shall redeem their soul from deceit and violence: and precious shall their blood be in his sight. 15 And he shall live, and to him shall be given of the gold of Sheba: prayer also shall be made for him continually; and daily shall he be praised. 16 There shall be an handful of corn in the earth upon the top of the mountains; the fruit thereof shall shake like Lebanon: and they of the city shall flourish like grass of the earth. 17 His name shall endure for ever: his name shall be continued as long as the sun: and men shall be blessed in him: all nations shall call him blessed. 18 Blessed be the Lord God, the God of Israel, who only doeth wondrous things. 19 And blessed be his glorious name for ever: and let the whole earth be filled with his glory; Amen, and Amen. 20 The prayers of David the son of Jesse are ended. This psalm was written for Solomon, but as a type of Christ, and soon transitions to statements applicable only to Jesus Christ, the One greater than Solomon (Matthew 12:42). Jesus Kingdom brings life, growth, and happiness. The long duration and universal extent of this dominion applies uniquely to Christ's mediatorial kingdom (Psalm 2:6,8, Isaiah 9:6-7, Jeremiah 31:35-36, 33:20-21, John 17:2, Colossians 1:18). In verse 11, we see that all kings shall fall at the feet of Christ as He is the King of kings and Lord of lords. All nations will serve Jesus, this will be the nations of the saved as the wicked will be destroyed. Jesus will set the poor free from injury and wrong. Precious shall their blood be (verse 14). Jesus regards the lives of His brethren as valuable. Prayer should be made for Him continually. Jehovah's people should constantly pray for the Kingdom of Christ to advance (Matthew 6:10). In verse 17, we see that Jesus name shall endure for ever as His new name in the restored earth will be "Jehovah Our Righteousness". All nations will be blessed in Christ. Jesus is the fulfillment of God's promise to Abraham to bless all the peoples of the world (Genesis 12:3, 22:18, Galatians 3:8, 13-14, Ephesians 1:3). Christ brings His Kingdom step by step in history. Jehovah's promise of the universal extension of Christ's Kingdom is realized through progressive fulfillment every time Christ acts in the world for salvation and judgment. Daniel 7:13-14 (KJV)13 I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. 14 And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed. This passage of scripture harmonizes with Psalm 45:6-7 and Hebrews 1:8-9 as this took place at Christ's ascension to heaven. The Ancient of Days Jehovah takes the kingdoms (sovereignty) away from the beasts and gives them to the Son of God. Whereas the kingdoms of the beasts were localized and temporary, Christ's rule is universal, everlasting and indestructible. The Roman Empire started something only Christ can finish. The Kingdom of Christ opposes and overcomes the kingdom of Satan (Luke 11:18-22) Luke 11:18-22 (KJV)18 If Satan also be divided against himself, how shall his kingdom stand? because ye say that I cast out devils through Beelzebub. 19 And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your sons cast them out? therefore shall they be your judges. 20 But if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you. 21 When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace: 22 But when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armour wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils. Jesus says here that the Kingdom of God had come upon the world at that time, the Kingdom of God was not some far off reality but rather a present one. Satan is a strong man that keeps his palace (his empire) and his goods are those who are subjects of his kingdom (unbelievers), yet a stronger man came in Christ Jesus and He overcame satan plundering his goods (subjects of the kingdom of darkness) and Christ divided the spoils (destroyed Satan's authority over his subjects and reconciled them to the Father). Christ came and undid the works of the devil. He is still doing this today through the Christian Congregation. The old testament as a whole was preparation for the arrival of the Kingdom when the great King and Savior came in the flesh. Isaiah 9:6-7 (KJV) 6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of Jehovah of hosts will perform this. Jehovah sent His Son to be the promised Son of David (Isaiah 7:2, 2 Samuel 7:12-15, Psalm 2:7, John 3:16, Galatians 4:4). Jesus is described by four titles that reflect His deity and gracious work as Mediator. Wonderful, Counsellor. Extraordinary revealer of divine wisdom (Isaiah 25:1; 28:29), of whom Solomon was a shadow (1 Kings 10:23-24). The Mighty God. God, the powerful defender (Isaiah 42:3); a phrase used only of Jehovah God (Isaiah 10:20-21; Deuteronomy 10:17; Nehemiah 9:32; Jeremiah 32:18; Zephaniah 3:17). This description of Jesus shows that along with the Father He is fully divine and inherited the Father's name Jehovah. In the above passage the Messiah is called the Prince of Peace. Not a King in waiting but the Chief ruler and administrator of peace; His work of reconciling sinners into harmony with God and each other (Isaiah 48:22; 53:5; 59:7-8). Judgement and justice. Justice and righteousness, key qualifiers of the reign of the Son of David (2 Samuel 8:15; 1 Kings 10:9, Jeremiah 23:5). Christ came here to establish His Kingdom ,first by announcing it's arrival during His earthly ministry and then by it's establishment at His ascension into heaven at the right hand of the Father. The passage above in Isaiah says of the increase of His government and peace there shall be no end. Since this prophecy is in regards to the first advent of Christ, we can conclude that His Kingdom started during His earthly ministry and of course was established for ever at His ascension to the right hand of the Father. "no end" in contrast to earthly kings, this King will reign forever (Luke 1:32-33). zeal of Jehovah. God's burning love for His own glory (Isaiah 42:8; 48;11). The Kingdom springs from Christ's work in dying and rising again. Every step taken in Christ's ministry expanded His Kingdom, from announcing it's arrival through His mighty works to denying Himself and dying on the cross bearing our transgressions and ransoming the elect. Also, His resurrection conquered the grave and death and the devil all at the same time. His ascension into the heavenly sanctuary fully established His throne and Kingdom for ever as he sat at the right hand of Jehovah God being given dominion and glory and a Kingdom. The God of Heaven set up His Son's Kingdom when His Son was brought near before Him after the Son ascended up to heaven. The increase of His Kingdom on earth followed shortly thereafter as the Son poured out the Holy Spirit in it's fullness on the day of Pentecost. The gospel of the Kingdom then went out to the four corners of the earth filling the whole earth under heaven (Matthew 13:32-33). By His death on the cross, Christ conquered the powers of evil, slaying the spiritual Goliath with his own sword (John 12;31; 16:11, Colossians 2;15; Hebrews 2;14). Yet Christ's redemption is not the first and foremost a victory over Satan but a purchase (Mark 10:45); His humiliation was the price necessary to satisfy Jehovah's law (Galatians 3;10, 13; 4;4-6). The Kingdom officially began after Christ resurrection, when He ascended into heaven, sat down at God's right hand, and poured out the Spirit to empower His Congregation to take the gospel to all nations (Acts 1:6-9; 2:23-36). The essence of Christ's redemptive Kingdom is the Spirit (Isaiah 11:1-2). The Father gave the Redeemer, the Son purchased redemption, and the Spirit is the blessing purchased (Galatians 3:13-14; 4:4-6), this is redemption of the Godhead. In His Spirit the exalted King is conquering the devil on earth, especially in converting and sanctifying the elect (Romans 5:17,21; 14:17; Revelation 17:14). Conversion delivers a sinner out of the kingdom of the Devil and sin and translates him into the Kingdom of Christ (Romans 6:14, 17; Colossians 1:12-13). I hope you enjoyed the second part of this study, I will post part 3 soon. Blessings to you brethren in the name of our Jehovah and Savior Jesus Christ, our now reigning King. re
