Jehoshua is on the throne of David in New Jerusalem and He is the King of a New Israel
Psalm 110:1-7 (ASV)
1 Jehovah saith unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, Until I make thine enemies thy footstool.2 Jehovah will send forth the rod of thy strength out of Zion: Rule thou in the midst of thine enemies.3 Thy people offer themselves willingly In the day of thy power, in holy array: Out of the womb of the morning Thou hast the dew of thy youth.4 Jehovah hath sworn, and will not repent: Thou art a priest for ever After the order of Melchizedek.5 The Lord at thy right hand Will strike through kings in the day of his wrath.6 He will judge among the nations, He will fill the places with dead bodies; He will strike through the head in many countries.7 He will drink of the brook in the way: Therefore will he lift up the head. This is likely the most alluded to old testament passage in the new testament. This is a very powerful passage and sheds light on several truths. In verse 1 we see the fulfillment of the Davidic covenant in which the seed of David is raised up to sit on his (David's) throne. This is a heavenly throne in the holy of holies and the Son of God is seated at Jehovah's right hand. The throne of David in the old testament was also referred to as the throne of Jehovah God: 1 Chronicles 29:23 (ASV) 23 Then Solomon sat on the throne of Jehovah as king instead of David his father, and prospered; and all Israel obeyed him. So there is no problem with Jehoshua sitting on the Father's throne at His right hand as well as sitting on the throne of David because the throne of David was called the throne of Jehovah as noted above. Jehoshua will sit on the Father's right hand until all His enemies are made His footstool. Verse 2 says that even in this process of Jehoshua's enemies being made His footstol He will rule in the midst of His enemies. This goes along with what we are told in 1 Corinthians 15:25: "For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet" The Son of God's reign as Davidic King begins at His ascension into heaven being seated at Jehovah's right hand on the throne of David. The Son of God's reign continues until all His enemies are put under His feet i.e. made His footstol. Jehoshua reigns even in the process of all His enemies being made His footstol. Once all His enemies are made His footstol then He (Jehoshua) will destroy the last enemy which is death and then hand over the Kingdom to the Father so that God be all in all. The fact that Jehoshua rules in the midst of His enemies, presently reigning until they are all made His footstol, and then hands the Kingdom over to the Father shows undoubtedly that the Kingdom of the Son of God is not in some future millennium but rather is during the new covenant Church age. Why can we say this for sure? Because the ruling of the Son of God takes place during the time He is on the right hand of God at the same time His enemies are being made His footstol. Once they are made His footstol then He hands over the Kingdom to the Father which takes place after He destroys the last enemy which is death which Paul says takes place on the last day when the righteous are resurrected (1 Cor 15:54). "Jehovah will send forth the rod of thy strength out of Zion" "rod" sceptre, symbol of God's Kingdom and presence. In Hebrews 1:8-9, we learn that this sceptre is the righteousness of Jehoshua Messiah who is "Jehovah our righteousness" (Jeremiah 23:6). The Son of God's righteousness is how He rules His Kingdom in the midst of His enemies. Jehoshua rules with a righteous sceptre and it is this sceptre "rod" that goes forth out of heavenly Zion which is where His Davidic throne is (Acts 2:29-36; Hebrews 1:8-9). The only Zion that matters anymore is the city of the living God, New Jerusalem (Hebrews 12). Verse 3 of Psalm 110, Jehoshua's people will voluntarily offer themselves as freewill offerings indicating the complete self dedication of His young warriors. Verse 4 of Psalm 110, Jehovah makes an irrevocable decree (Hebrews 6:17-18). Messiah having risen from the dead, has no successor, but intercedes through the ages for His people (Hebrews 7:16-17, 24-25). "Melchizedek" the name means "king of righteousness" (Hebrews 7:2). This shows that Jehoshua's priesthood is inherently connected with His Kingship. To say that Jehoshua is not King yet is contrary to the functions of the Melchizedek priesthood which is only a priesthood that a King can qualify for. Melchizedek was king of Salem and priest of the Most High God before David's Kingship and Aaron's priesthood, and thus a type of Messiah. Jehoshua is the King of New Jerusalem and the high priest of Jehovah God the Most High. Jehoshua unites the offices of priest and King in one person (Hebrews 5:6, 10; 7:17, 21; Zechariah 6:13). Verse 5 of Psalm 110, the Lord at Jehovah's right hand will strike through the kings of the earth in the day of His wrath. This brings visions of Revelation 19:11-21 which detail the Son of God coming as the conquering King to vanquish the nations with a rod of iron resulting in Him dashing them to pieces like a potters vessel. This includes the kings, mighty men and captains of the earth. Verse 6 of Psalm 110, the Messiah as King is the universal judge, because the whole earth is under His rulership. Jehoshua will sit on His throne of glory and judge the nations, this is the sheep and the goat judgment (Matthew 25:31-44) i.e. the white throne Judgment. This takes place after His second advent. This is the valley of decision (Joel 3:14) i.e the valley of Jehoshaphat which means "Jehovah judges" as the only begotten Son Jehoshua judges the world on behalf of Jehovah God His Father. Jehoshua will kill the heads of many countries showing them that He is the King of kings and Lord of lords. These dignitaries refused to kiss the Son (Psalm 2:12) and now the wrath of God will execute them. These are the kings, captains and mighty men of the earth who will be slain by the sword of Jehoshua, Luke 11:27: "But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me" Revelation 19 details the fate of the dignitaries of the earth as their flesh will be eaten by birds of heaven and then they will be cast into the lake of fire which is the second death. Verse 7 of Psalm 110, "He will drink of the book" a metaphor for refreshment as the Davidic King of Israel draws from divine resources which is Jehovah God His Father and therefore He will not fail in His Royal mission (Isaiah 42:1, 4). The second part of verse 7 reads "therefore He shall lift up the head"4 This is an interesting verse that is lost on many people. What does this phrase mean? Well if we go to a related passage in 1 Corinthians chapter 15 then we have the answer: 24 Then cometh the end, when he shall deliver up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have abolished all rule and all authority and power. 25 For he must reign, till he hath put all his enemies under his feet. 26 The last enemy that shall be abolished is death. 27 For, He put all things in subjection under his feet. But when he saith, All things are put in subjection, it is evident that he is excepted who did subject all things unto him. 28 And when all things have been subjected unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subjected to him that did subject all things unto him, that God may be all in all. I believe this passage answers the question of what it means for the Messiah to lift up the head. Jehoshua putting down all rule and all authority coincides with Psalm 110:6 in which He executes the heads of many countries. Obviously both of these passages (Psalm 110 and 1 Cor 15) take place right after the second advent of the Son of God not after some future millennium. It is precisley after this conquest of the Son of God over the heads of many countries and putting down all rule and all authority that He delivers up the Kingdom to God the Father. The last enemy to be destroyed is death which Paul the apostle says takes place at the resurrection of the just, 1 Corinthians 15:54: "But when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory" It is absolutely clear that the last enemy (death) is destroyed at the second advent not at the end of some make believe future millennium. After this last enemy is destroyed Jehoshua Messiah then subjects Himself to God the Father, so that God may be all in all. This is what means in Psalm 110:7 for Jehoshua after His victory over His enemies (them being made His footstol) to lift up the head. The head is God the Father and in that day, after death is destroyed at the second advent of Jehoshua, the Father will be lifted up as the head so that He will be all in all. This is not the only place we see the ultimate exaltation of Jehovah God subsequent to the Messiah's second advent. Let's go to Zechariah 14: 3 Then shall Jehovah go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle.4 And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east; and the mount of Olives shall be cleft in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south. Most Christians acknowledge this passage to be about the second advent of Jehoshua Messiah. See Acts 1 for the correlation. This passage is also used to try and prove that Jehoshua is Jehovah God. When we compare scripture with scripture, we see that it is not Jehovah God Himself that stands on the mount of Olives and fights in the day of battle (the terrible day of Jehovah) but rather it is His Son that fights on His behalf. Let's prove this by going to others texts. Revelation 14 19 And the angel thrust in his sickle into the earth, and gathered the vine of the earth, and cast it into the great winepress of the wrath of God. The great and terrible day of Jehovah culminates in His wrath being poured out on the earth. This is called the great winepress of Almighty God. It is Jehoshua as God's word that brings this about: Revelation 19:13-15 (KJV) 13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.14 And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. Obviously this passage refers to the Messiah returning to earth with vengeance as this passage quotes Psalm 2 which is a Messianic passage. The Son of God smiting the nations and dashing them to pieces like a potters vessel is Him treading the winepress of the wrath of Almighty God. Jehoshua Messiah executes His Father's wrath as the destroying the nations with a rod of iron is equivalent to executing God the Father's wrath. So now we see that Jehoshua executes His Father's wrath at the second advent and comes in the glory of His Father: Matthew 16:27 27For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then shall he render unto every man according to his deeds. The Son of God comes to the mount of Olives in the day of battle in His Father Jehovah's glory. It's the same as Jehovah setting foot on the mount of Olives as the Son represents the Father and is His express image. Once the Son of God vanquishes His foes, the last of which is death at His second advent, the He will lift up the head Jehovah God by delivering the Kingdom over to Him. In that day, the Son will subject Himself to the Father so that God even the Father will be all and in all. And in that day Jehovah God will reign supreme as Zechariah the prophet describes in chapter 14: 9 And Jehovah shall be King over all the earth: in that day shall Jehovah be one, and his name one. This will be in the new heavens and new earth as the Kingdom will be handed over to the Father after the Son puts down all rule and all authority. In that day the shema of Israel will be exalted as the true testimony of who God is: Deuteronomy 6:4-5 4 Hear, O Israel: Jehovah our God is one Jehovah:5 and thou shalt love Jehovah thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. There will be no trinity god in the new heavens and new earth as Jehovah God will be exalted as one and His name one. Jehoshua His Son tells us who is the only true God: John 17:3 3And this is life eternal, that they should know thee the only true God, and him whom thou didst send, even Jehoshua Messiah. Before we get to the new heavens and new earth, Jehoshua wants us to have the knowledge that His Father (Jehovah) is the only true God. As Jehoshua did in His earthly ministry, He will do after His return to earth and lift up the head Jehovah God. I leave you with the blessed promise of Revelation 21: 1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth are passed away; and the sea is no more.2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven of God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband.3 And I heard a great voice out of the throne saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he shall dwell with them, and they shall be his peoples, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.
