Jehoshua is on the throne of David in New Jerusalem and He is the King of a New Israel
The angel of Jehovah's presence also known as Jehovah's holy Spirit part 1 of my study
Isaiah 63:9-11 (ASV) 9In all their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them: in his love and in his pity he redeemed them; and he bare them, and carried them all the days of old.10But they rebelled, and grieved his holy Spirit: therefore he was turned to be their enemy, and himself fought against them.11Then he remembered the days of old, Moses and his people, saying, Where is he that brought them up out of the sea with the shepherds of his flock? where is he that put his holy Spirit in the midst of them? The angel of Jehovah's presence saved the Israelites in the exodus. The angel was the means by which Jehovah God worked on behalf of His people to have them exit Egypt safely. Remember king David equated Jehovah's presence with His Spirit: Psalm 51:11 (ASV) "Cast me not away from thy presence; And take not thy holy Spirit from me." I submit to you that Jehovah doesn't send His presence/Spirit to His people without an agent bringing it. In the old testament, we see that this is the angel of Jehovah. We have traditionally been taught that the Holy Spirit proceeds out of the substance of God yet the old testament conveys a different way in which the Spirit is sent from Jehovah. He sends His Spirit in the form of an angel who are identified as spirit beings (Hebrews 1). Verse 10 says they (Israel) vexed Jehovah's holy Spirit by rebelling. This comes right after the angel of Jehovah's presence being mentioned in verse 9 as the instrument of salvation. Exodus 23:20-23 (ASV) 20 Behold, I send an angel before thee, to keep thee by the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared.21 Take ye heed before him, and hearken unto his voice; provoke him not; for he will not pardon your transgression: for my name is in him.22 But if thou shalt indeed hearken unto his voice, and do all that I speak; then I will be an enemy unto thine enemies, and an adversary unto thine adversaries.23 For mine angel shall go before thee, and bring thee in unto the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Canaanite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite: and I will cut them off. Angels are referred to as holy ones and spirits hence they are holy spirits. Here in Exodus 23 we have a connection to what Isaiah is talking about re: Israel rebelling and vexing Jehovah's holy Spirit. The Israelites were commanded to obey the voice of the angel of Jehovah as He had Jehovah's name (authority) in him. The angel had the authority (name) of Jehovah God to not pardon their transgressions. Back to Isaiah 63, we know that Israel rebelled against Jehovah in the wilderness thereby vexing the angel that was in command of leading Israel. This angel is holy (a holy one, set apart) and is a spirit (not human). By rebelling against Jehovah, Israel vexed His holy Spirit who is the angel of Jehovah's presence (spirit). The close proximity of the angel of Jehovah's presence (verse 9) and Jehovah's holy Spirit (verses 10 and 11) give strong evidence that they are one and the same. Verse 11 of Isaiah 63, i find it interesting that the KJV says "where is he that put his holy spirit within him?" I believe the ASV renders better in saying "where is he that put his holy spirit in the midst of them?" The KJV rendering supports the holy Spirit being some type of invisible substance i.e. trinity, whereas the ASV rendering supports the holy Spirit being the angel of Jehovah as it was the angel of Jehovah who was put in the midst of Israel. The holy Spirit being put in the midst of Israel goes perfectly with verse 9 of Isaiah 63 where it says the angel of Jehovah's presence saved them. It was the angel of Jehovah that led Israel out of the sea. The angel of Jehovah was with Israel as a nation from the exodus onward as Exodus 23 states and it is the angel being given to Israel as a guide that it can be said Jehovah put His holy Spirit in the midst of them. In verse 10 we learn that rebellious Israel vexed Jehovah's holy Spirit which in verse 9 is referred to as the angel of Jehovah's presence. "Vexed" grieved or hurt feelings. Acts 7:51 (ASV) 51 Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Spirit: as your fathers did, so do ye. Stephen here identifies the holy Spirit as the one the Israelites of old resisted or rebelled against. As we see in Isaiah 63:9-11, the angel of Jehovah is equated with the holy Spirit. The Israelites vexed or grieved Jehovah's holy Spirit which He put in the midst of them. Exodus 23 identifies the angel of Jehovah as the one who was put in the midst of Israel hence the angel and the holy Spirit are one and the same. Lets now go to verses 12-14 of Isaiah 63: End of verse 11: "where is he that put his holy Spirit in the midst of them?" 12 that caused his glorious arm to go at the right hand of Moses? that divided the waters before them, to make himself an everlasting name? 13 that led them through the depths, as a horse in the wilderness, so that they stumbled not? 14 As the cattle that go down into the valley, the Spirit of Jehovah caused them to rest; so didst thou lead thy people, to make thyself a glorious name. The Holy Spirit which Jehovah put in the midst of Israel, which verse 9 and Exodus 23 identify as the angel of Jehovah, is called here in verse 12 of Isaiah 63 "the glorious arm" that was at the right hand of Moses dividing the waters of the red sea. Verse 14 says it was the Spirit of Jehovah that caused Moses and Israel to rest, once again making the connection between the holy Spirit of Jehovah and the angel of Jehovah as it was the angel of Jehovah's presence (verse 9) that saved Israel in their exodus experience thereby giving them rest from their enemies. Exodus 14:19 (ASV) 19 And the angel of God, who went before the camp of Israel, removed and went behind them; and the pillar of cloud removed from before them, and stood behind them: In context this is speaking about Israel's red sea experience. Just as verse 9 of Isaiah 63 says it was the angel of Jehovah's presence that saved Israel and verse 14 of Isaiah 63 says it was the Spirit of Jehovah that gave them rest, here in Exodus it is the angel of God (Jehovah) which went before Israel and also behind them during their exodus out of Egypt. This proves that the holy Spirit that Jehovah put in the midst of Israel to lead them by the right hand of Moses in the red sea was indeed the angel of God (Jehovah) described in Exodus 19:14. Hebrews 1:13-14 (ASV) 13 But of which of the angels hath he said at any time, Sit thou on my right hand, Till I make thine enemies the footstool of thy feet? 14 Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to do service for the sake of them that shall inherit salvation? Hebrews 1:7 7 And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels winds (spirits), And his ministers a flame a fire: It should not be too surprising that the holy Spirit is an angel for the text above says that angels are made to be spirits by Jehovah God. They also appear as a flame of fire. Angels are also called "holy ones" Jude 14: "And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints" The word "saints" is rendered from the Greek word "hagios" (Strongs 40) and means "consecrates, saint, holy one". Acts 1:1-2 1 The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,2 Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen: The Holy Spirit would be the vehicle in which Jehoshua would send the apostolic congregation commandments. This indeed is still the method in which Jehoshua sends His remnant congregation commandments. As the passage above states there wasn't a need for Jehoshua to use the Holy Spirit to communicate His instructions while He was physically present with the apostles. The question we have to ask is, did Jehoshua use a person to carry out this function or simply an invisible power? Acts 2:1-4 1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. Notice a couple things here, that the holy ghost is described as a mighty rushing wind and cloven tongues like fire. This is what Hebrews 1;7 says that God makes His angels (winds and flames of fire). This could easily describe an angel even though the language used could describe an invisible power of God without personage. Verse 4 says that the Spirit gave the apostles utterance. Remember, that the utterance that the apostles spoke with is the preaching of the gospel of the Kingdom. In other words, Jehoshua gave commandments to the apostles to preach by way of the Holy Ghost. The Spirit who gave the apostles utterance can either be an invisible impersonal power of God or a person as this passage doesn't prove either view. What will confirm the identity of the Holy Spirit is other passages in the book of Acts which show the Holy Spirit giving the apostolic congregation commandments. Acts 8:26 "And the angel of Jehovah spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza, which is desert." Acts 8:29 "Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot." Just 3 verses later after the angel of Jehovah tells Phillip to go to Gaza we now read that the Spirit tells Phillip to join the Ethiopion eunuch in his chariot. This Spirit is obvious one and the same as the angel of Jehovah who told Phillip to go to Gaza. Remember, angels are spirits and they are holy. It wouldn't make sense for the angel of Jehovah to speak to Phillip and then just a little bit later (3 verses) that some invisible non personal power speaks to Phillip. The connection between the angel of Jehovah and the Spirit is undeniable. Here we see the angel of Jehovah giving Phillip a commandment to go to Gaza. Remember, Acts 1:1-2 said that Jehoshua would give the apostolic congregation commandments through the Holy Spirit. Just 3 verses later the Spirit then gives Phillip a commandment to join the Ethiopion eunuch in his chariot. Verses 27-38 detail Phillip's evangelism towards the ehtiopian eunuch. Let's go to verse 39: "And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of Jehovah caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing" This obviously is the same Spirit that commanded Phillip in verse 29 to join the Ethiopion in his chariot which just 3 verses earlier commanded him (Phillip) to go to Gaza, who was identified as the angel of Jehovah. The Spirit is the angel of Jehovah which is obvious here in Acts 8. Here in verse 39, the Spirit is referred to as "the Spirit of Jehovah". Remember, angels are Spirits and this could have easily been rendered as "the Angel of Jehovah" which precisely it was in verse 26. Spirit and angel can be used interchangeably. Now let's go a chapter where Stephen gives a discourse regarding the angel of Jehovah appearing to Moses. Acts 7;29-35 Then fled Moses at this saying, and was a stranger in the land of Madian, where he begat two sons.30 And when forty years were expired, there appeared to him in the wilderness of mount Sina an angel of the Lord in a flame of fire in a bush.31 When Moses saw it, he wondered at the sight: and as he drew near to behold it, the voice of the Lord came unto him,32 Saying, I am the God of thy fathers, the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. Then Moses trembled, and durst not behold.33 Then said the Lord to him, Put off thy shoes from thy feet: for the place where thou standest is holy ground. person to carry out this function or simply an invisible power? Then Moses trembled, and durst not behold.33 Then said the Lord to him, Put off thy shoes from thy feet: for the place where thou standest is holy ground.cloud where they (Moses and Jehovah) communed. The angel gave Moses the commandments. Its noteworthy that it is posited often that Jehovah God Himself gave Moses the commandments. This is because when the angel of Jehovah speaks it as if Jehovah Himself is speaking. Exodus 19 - 34 detail Jehovah giving Moses commandments to give to the people of Israel and in Acts 7:38 it says that it was the angel who actually gave Moses the oracles of God showing that the Angel is Jehovah's representative and brings Jehovah's presence with him. They angel has authority to speak on behalf of Jehovah as if He is Jehovah Himself. The angel didn't speak of Himself but only spoke what Jehovah spoke through Him and repeatedly declared the name of Jehovah God as if He was Jehovah Himself. The same angel that gave Moses the commandments is identified as the same angel that spoke to Moses in the bush and identified Himself as Jehovah God again showing that the angel is Jehovah's mouth piece. This same angel is also identified by Stephen in Acts 7:35 as the angel who delivered Moses and the Israelites from bondage in Eygpt culminating in the parting of the red sea which Isaiah 63 clearly says was the angel of Jehovah's presence, Jehovah's holy Spirit and the angel of Jehovah. The appearance at the bush, deliverance in the red sea, and the giving of the commandments of God were all done by the same angel. This is also the same angel that caused Israel to rest in the wilderness which then we know is the same angel that Moses was told would have Jehovah's name in Him and would not pardon their transgressions if they hearkened not unto his voice. Obviously Isaiah 63 shows that the Israelites eventually rebelled against Jehovah's holy Spirit i.e. the angel of Jehovah and thereby Jehovah became Israel's enemy fighting against them. In Exodus 23 Moses is told that if they heard the voice of the angel then Jehovah would be an enemy to their enemies. Of course the opposite is true. Acts 7:51 "Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do ye" Stephen says that the religious leaders have been and are rejecting the holy Ghost just as their forefathers did. This is exactly what is said of the Israelites in Isaiah 63: 9 In all their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them: in his love and in his pity he redeemed them; and he bare them, and carried them all the days of old.10 But they rebelled, and grieved his holy Spirit: therefore he was turned to be their enemy, and himself fought against them. In the context of Isaiah 63 as noted earlier in this study we see that the Holy Spirit is one and the same as the angel of Jehovah's presence and the angel of Jehovah. The old testament Israelites were rebelling against Jehovah's holy Spirit which is the angel His presence (verse 9) and that is why He turned to be their enemy and fight against them as He warned them in Exodus 23:20-33 t0 obey the voice of the angel that He would send before them. This is the same Holy Spirit that He put within the midst of Israel delivering them in the red sea and leading them in the wilderness. This is rightly identified as the angel of Jehovah's presence in Isaiah 63 as well as the angel of Jehovah in Acts 7 and the Spirit of Jehovah God and Holy Spirit in Isaiah 63.
