Jehoshua is on the throne of David in New Jerusalem and He is the King of a New Israel
Verse 24 of Ezekiel 37 echoes Jeremiah 30 where it says;
8 And it shall come to pass in that day, saith Jehovah of hosts, that I will break his yoke from off thy neck, and will burst thy bonds; and strangers shall no more make him their bondman; 9 but they shall serve Jehovah their God, and David their king, whom I will raise up unto them. This applies both to Jehoshua's first advent as well as his second advent. At Jehoshua's first advent he reconciled both Judah and Israel back to Jehovah God. Jehoshua himself was placed on the throne of David at His ascension into heaven thereby being raised up (resurrection) by Jehovah God to be Israel's King. At Jehoshua,'s second advent he will remove the yoke of Babylon off of the Israelite people and reign on earth as their King and lead them into worship of his God and Father Jehovah. It was the royal seed of David that was prophesied to rule over the earth forever: Isaiah 9:6-7 6 For unto us a child is begotten, unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of his government and of peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to establish it, and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of Jehovah of hosts will perform this. Verse 6 of Isaiah 9 refers to the birth of the Davidic King as well as the titles/roles he would fulfill. Verse 7 speaks of the begotten child as reigning upon the throne of David and His Kingdom being established upon it and it lasting forever. This reiterates the promise made to David in 2 Samuel 7. Matthew 1:20 "But when he thought on these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit" The angel of Jehovah appeared to Joseph. Note that Matthew notes that Joseph is a son of David. This is mentioned to emphasize the Davidic nature of Jospeh and Mary's son. This is because the Israelites knew that the coming Messiah would be from the royal seed of David. Luke 2:4 "And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David" Luke also emphasizes that Joseph, Jehoshua's father, is of the house of David. This is important because the Messiah had to be of the line of Jesse through the father (Numbers 1:18). 1 Kings 2:12 "And Solomon sat upon the throne of David his father; and his kingdom was established greatly" Solomon was the first beneficiary of the Davidic covenant post David. The throne that the King of Israel sits upon is referred to as the throne of David. Solomon was the first royal recipient of the Davidic promise (post David( and Jehoshua is the last. The King of Israel position is for the royal seed of David. 2nd Chronicles 1:8-9 8 And Solomon said unto God, Thou hast showed great lovingkindness unto David my father, and hast made me king in his stead. 9 Now, O Jehovah God, let thy promise unto David my father be established; for thou hast made me king over a people like the dust of the earth in multitude. Here Solomon is referring to the Davidic covenant and thanks Jehovah God for making him King in the place of his father. Solomon petitions Jehovah to keep His promise to his father David. Solomon also alludes to the Abrahamic covenant in that he refers to the people of Israel as the dust of the earth. Abraham was told that his seed would number as the sand of the sea shore. The royal seed of David was to be shepherd over the people of Abraham through Isaac and Jacob. Revelation 5:4-5 4 And I wept much, because no one was found worthy to open the book, or to look thereon: 5 and one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not; behold, the Lion that is of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, hath overcome to open the book and the seven seals thereof. The Kingship of Israel would be from the tribe of Judah and also from the line of David. Here Jehoshua is called the root of David. The word "root" is rendered from the greek word "rhiza" and means "a root, that which like a root springs from a root, a sprout, shoot". Jehoshua being the root is the same as him being a shoot from the family tree of David. Root does not mean he preceded David in existence but rather that he is a sprout from the Davidic family line as all of Bible prophecy said the Messiah would be. The above passage is saying that Jehoshua sprouted forth from the family tree of David. The book of Revelation confirms that it would be a Davidic Messiah that would bring salvation to God's people. Jehoshua as the branch of David overcame temptation and the rulers of this world to be a pure sacrifice unto Jehovah God. Matthew 15:22 "And behold, a Canaanitish woman came out from those borders, and cried, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a demon" The Canaanite (Syro-phoencian) knew that the Messiah of Israel would be a son of David. This was the expectation that Israel had concerning the nature of their Messiah. 2nd Chronicles 21:6-7 6 And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, as did the house of Ahab; for he had the daughter of Ahab to wife: and he did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah. 7 Howbeit Jehovah would not destroy the house of David, because of the covenant that he had made with David, and as he promised to give a lamp (light) to him and to his children alway. No matter how wicked the Davidic Kings became Jehovah's covenant with David would not fail. Jehoram was a wicked king, even marrying Ahab's daughter, yet Jehovah would not destroy the house of David as Jehovah promised to give David a light (lamp) to his royal seed forever. No we see where the language of Jehoshua being the light of the world (Israel) comes from. David was promised that his royal offspring would be a lamp unto Israel forever. Even though there would be wicked kings and a temporary empty throne Jehovah would keep His promise and give Israel a light from the Davidic throne forever. This was fulfilled in Jehoshua. 1 Chronicles 28:3 "But God said unto me, Thou shalt not build a house for my name, because thou art a man of war, and hast shed blood" Like his father David, Jehoshua is a man of war.. During his first advent Jehoshua was like Solomon, a man of peace. When he returns he will exceed David in bloodshed. Matthew 12:22-23 22 Then was brought unto him one possessed with a demon, blind and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the dumb man spake and saw. 23 And all the multitudes were amazed, and said, Can this be the son of David? It is clear that the Saviour that the multitudes of Israel were waiting for was to be a son of David, hence their response to Jehoshua healing the demon possessed man. "The" (singular-prophetic) son of David was equated with being the Messianic Saviour. David made the Edomites his servants and he executes justice and righteousness for HIS people. Who were the Edomites and who were David's people? The Edomites are your modern Jews. David's people were the nation of Israel. The below text says that David reigned over all Israel. When Jehoshua comes back he too will execute justice and righteousness for his people Israel and be their earthly King. However, he will not make the Edomite Jews his servants but instead he will kill them with the sword (Isaiah 63, Obadiah 1). 2 Samuel 8:13-15 13 And David gat him a name when he returned from smiting the Syrians in the Valley of Salt, even eighteen thousand men.14 And he put garrisons in Edom; throughout all Edom put he garrisons, and all the Edomites became servants to David. And Jehovah gave victory to David whithersoever he went.15 And David reigned over all Israel; and David executed justice and righteousness unto all his people. Mark 12:35-37 35 And Jehoshua answered and said, as he taught in the temple, How say the scribes that the Messiah is the son of David? 36 David himself said in the Holy Spirit, Jehovah said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, Till I make thine enemies the footstool of thy feet. 37 David himself calleth him Lord; and whence is he his son? And the common people heard him gladly. Jehoshua is not disputing that he is the son of David for others called him that and he did not deny it, also the angel Gabriel calls him that in the announcement of his upcoming birth. What Jehoshua is saying is that he will be, superior to David because he is the final fulfillment of the promise Jehovah made to David. Jehoshua quotes Psalm 110 attributing that text to himself. Psalm 110 is a resurrection and enthronement text. It is the most quoted or alluded to old testament verse in the new testament. Jehoshua is telling the audience that he will be superior to David at the resurrection and that he will be the King that reigns forever, hence he will be David's King. Luke 1:26-27 26 Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, 27 to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin`s name was Mary. Just as in Matthew 1 Joseph is mentioned as being from the house of Joseph. This was important information because it helps validate the Messianic claims of Jehoshua as the Messiah had to be of the line of David. Jeremiah 23:5-6 5 Behold, the days come, saith Jehovah, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and he shall reign as king and deal wisely, and shall execute justice and righteousness in the land. 6 In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely; and this is his name whereby he shall be called: Jehovah our righteousness. Here Jeremiah prophesies about the future Davidic Messiah that would be raised up unto the Davidic family tree. Here the Davidic Messiah is called the Branch. The word "Branch" comes from the Hebrew word "Tsemach" (strongs 6780) and means "branch, bud, that which grew, growth, sprouting, shoot (of Messiah of Davidic tree)". Jehoshua is the Branch of the Davidic family tree that was raised up by Jehovah God Almighty to reign over the house of Judah and the house of Israel. This means Jehoshua grew out of the royal family lineage of David. Verse 5 of Jeremiah 23 echoes that of Isaiah 9:6-7 in that the Davidic Branch would excute justice and righteousness from his throne. While this is true in the new covenant age, the total fulfillment of this will be in the land promised to Abraham when Jehoshua comes back. In verse 6, Jeremiah confirms that the Davidic King is the Saviour of the house of Judah and the house of Israel. This who Jehovah makes the new covenant with. The new covenant is made with the blood of the Messianic Davidic King. Jehoshua was sent to save his people (Judah/Israel) from their sins. The part of Judah and Israel being saved has ti do with the first advent and the part where they will dwell safely has to do with the second advent. Matthew 1:21-23 21 And she shall bring forth a son; and thou shalt call his name JEHOSHUA; for it is he that shall save his people from their sins. 22 Now all this is come to pass, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by JEHOVAH through the prophet, saying, 23 Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, And they shall call his name Immanuel; which is, being interpreted, God with us. Who are Jehoshua's people? Read Deuteronomy 18:15-21 where Moses, speaking of Jehoshua, says that the prophet Jehovah would raise up would be of his brethren, the Israelites. Verse 21 says that Jehoshua would save his people from their sins. Clearly Jehoshua was an Israelite and those are his people. The modern churches have changed this to mean Jehoshua came to save everyone in their sins. The arrival of the Davidic Messiah was a sign that Jehovah was with us. Who are the us? Who was promised the Davidic Messiah? Obviously Israel. ReplyForward
